Looking for fun and inexpensive crafts?

Salt dough ornaments could be a good choice for you and/or your family.

With a little salt, flour, water and some decorations you can make beautiful ornaments to give as gifts to family and friends, use these dough ornaments on your own tree or start your child's collection of ornaments (paint the year on the front or back of the ornaments).

You probably have all the necessary items around the house. This is an excellent craft for kids, especially on a cold or rainy day.

No need to limit this to Christmas either, how about Easter or Valentine's Day?

I N G R E D I E N T S:
4 Cups of Flour
1 Cup of Salt
1 1/2 Cups of Hot Water
Holiday Cookie Cutters
Glitter, Paint, Beads, Buttons, Etc.

I N S T R U C T I O N S:
Knead the dough (it makes a very stiff dough). If it is too sticky, add a little more flour.
If you want to experiment with this a little at first, make a half batch of the dough.

Roll out the dough and cut out shapes with cookie cutters (just like if you were making sugar cookies).

Use a toothpick to make a hole for hanging, make the hole a little larger than you will want as it will close when baking.

Place shapes on a microwave safe plate and microwave on high for about 2 minutes. If dough does not appear to be fairly dry, you may need to microwave for another minute or two. Time will vary depending on how thick you made the "ornaments" and how many you have on a plate.

Let them cool, then paint and decorate as desired.

Be creative! Use paint, glitter paint, glue on buttons and ribbons, insert a ribbon in the hole for hanging, and anything else you can think of!
